No. 1 and Off Track: Nelly Korda’s Evian Struggle Raises Eyebrows

EVIAN-LES-BAINS, France — World No. 1 Nelly Korda is firmly in contention at The Amundi Evian Championship after two dramatic rounds that showcased both resilience and grit.

Korda opened with a solid 4-under 67 on Thursday, despite a shaky start that included two early bogeys. She rebounded with a bogey-free stretch across the final 14 holes, highlighted by six birdies.

“I didn’t drive it very well,” Korda admitted post-round. “But putting got better and my short game saved me.”

Friday proved more turbulent. Starting on the back nine, she dropped four shots across holes 12 to 16, including a double bogey on the par-3 16th. Yet, she bounced back with an eagle on 18 and three more birdies to card a 1-under 70, finishing the day at 5-under overall—five shots behind leader Somi Lee.

Despite not having won in 2025 yet, Korda has stayed consistent, posting six top-15 finishes in 10 events. With two rounds to go, the 26-year-old is poised for a strong weekend push as she chases her third major title at a course where she’s previously cracked the top 10.
