Leo DaSilva Exposes Abuja Supermarket for Fake Products, Demands NAFDAC Crackdown!

Reality TV star and former Big Brother Naija housemate, Leo DaSilva, has raised serious concerns about the growing circulation of counterfeit products in Nigeria.

In a post shared via his X (formerly Twitter) account, Leo disclosed that he unknowingly purchased several fake personal care and pharmaceutical items from a popular supermarket in Abuja. The incident, he noted, occurred multiple times over the course of just one month.

Among the counterfeit products he listed were cod liver oil, Gestid (an antacid), Sensodyne toothpaste, Simple face wash, and deodorant—all commonly used household and health essentials.

Leo called on the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to immediately launch comprehensive raids on major supermarkets across the nation’s capital. He emphasized that the sale of fake skincare and pharmaceutical items poses a serious public health risk, and regulatory bodies must intensify their enforcement efforts.

“The amount of fake drugs, fake deodorants, fake toothpaste, and fake skin care in Nigeria is ridiculous,” Leo wrote. “In one month, I’ve bought fake cod liver oil, Gestid, Sensodyne, Simple face wash, deodorant, etc. NAFDAC needs to raid all big supermarkets in Abuja.”

NIWA Reveals Cause of Actor Junior Pope’s Fatal Boat Accident

Meanwhile, the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) has provided clarity on the tragic boat accident that claimed the life of Nollywood actor Junior Pope and four others on the Anam River in Anambra State back in April 2024.

According to NIWA’s Managing Director, Bola Oyebamiji, the accident was not caused by mechanical failure but rather human error. Speaking during a multi-modal transportation stakeholders’ meeting held in Abuja on Thursday, Oyebamiji revealed that the victims failed to follow safety protocols.

He explained that although life jackets were available and offered to passengers, some refused to wear them, leading to the fatal outcome. There were no issues with the boat’s engine, weather, or water conditions.

NIWA urged Nigerians to prioritize waterway safety and always adhere to precautionary measures to avoid further tragedies.
