Andy Murray Joins Fan Outrage After Controversial Ruling Rocks the Tennis World

Grigor Dimitrov’s Wimbledon journey came to a sudden and heartbreaking end after he was forced to retire due to injury during his fourth-round match against Jannik Sinner. The Bulgarian, who had taken a commanding two-set lead, was derailed by a pectoral injury that struck following an unexpected pause in play.
The match, played under the iconic Centre Court lights on Monday evening, had the tennis world watching closely—including legend Roger Federer, who observed from the Royal Box. Dimitrov appeared dominant early on, but officials halted play after the second set to close the roof, citing diminishing daylight.
That decision changed everything.
Upon resumption, Dimitrov was clearly in discomfort and could not continue. It marked his fifth consecutive retirement from a Grand Slam, an alarming trend that has left fans and fellow players frustrated.
One of the most vocal critics was former world No. 1 and two-time Wimbledon champion Andy Murray, who took to social media to vent:
“So ridiculous to close the roof at this stage of the match. At least an hour of light left… well over a set of tennis can still be played… it’s an outdoor tournament!”
Meanwhile, Jannik Sinner, who moves on to face Ben Shelton in the quarter-finals, made it clear he didn’t consider the result a true win:
“I don’t take this as a win at all. This is just an unfortunate moment for all of us to witness,” he said. “He’s one of the hardest-working guys on tour, and seeing this again is really tough.”
Sinner also revealed he was dealing with an injury of his own, sustained in the first game of the match, which affected both his serve and forehand. A medical assessment is expected soon.
