Pete Edochie Speaks Out: Why Igbo Men Struggle in Politics

Veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie recently shared his candid opinion on the political tendencies of Igbo men during an interview with Afia TV, as reported by Naija News.

Edochie asserted that Igbo men are not naturally suited for politics, especially due to their inability to tolerate political treachery. He explained that while seasoned politicians might overlook betrayals as part of the game, Igbo men find it difficult to forgive such acts more than once. This, according to him, often leads Igbo politicians to sever ties with former allies after experiencing betrayal.

He stated, “An Igbo man is not a good politician. People who are used to politics or the treachery that comes with it can overlook a lot of things. But the Igbo man is not built to tolerate treachery a second time. If you betray him once in politics, he won’t give you another chance to hurt him. He will withdraw completely. That’s the typical Igbo man.”

He further emphasized, “Igbo men are not made to sustain political treachery. The moment treachery occurs in dealings with an Igbo man, he cuts ties immediately.”

In a related note, another Nollywood star, Solade, recently reflected on the Yoruba genre’s history within Nollywood during an interview on the show ‘Father’s Path with Tope’. While acknowledging that Pete Edochie is older, Solade pointed out that he began acting before the legendary actor.

Solade also highlighted how different sections of Nollywood documented and marketed their works differently. He noted that other regional industries preserved their productions on cassettes and used media channels to promote them, which helped establish their presence.

Addressing claims that the origins of Nollywood were started by groups other than the Yorubas, Solade attributed this misconception to the Yoruba industry’s failure to document its early beginnings properly, which allowed others to claim credit for founding Nollywood.
