“I Was Drowning”: Gospel Star Gaise Baba Opens Up About His Secret Struggle With Porn Addiction

Gospel singer and “No Turning Back” hitmaker Gaise Baba has revealed the deeply personal battle he faced behind the scenes—one that began long before the spotlight ever found him.
In a recent interview on the WithChude podcast, Gaise (real name Akinade Ibuoye) opened up about his teenage struggle with porn addiction, a habit that took root shortly after he made a heartfelt vow to remain sexually pure until marriage.
“I made a covenant of purity when I was 15. I wrote it down, signed it, and gave it to my pastor,” he recalled. “But ironically, that was the same period I got addicted to porn.”
The confession was raw, honest, and eye-opening. Gaise explained that despite his firm spiritual commitment, temptation found a way in—teaching him a powerful lesson about the fragility of human resolve.
“I knew what it felt like to see cleavage, curves, full nudity… I realized that under the right temperature and pressure, any man can fall.”
Despite the challenges, Gaise and his wife eventually overcame the struggle, staying true to their decision and marrying as virgins—a milestone he now looks back on with deep gratitude and humility.
Known for his soulful blend of gospel and Afrofusion, Gaise launched his music career in 2005 and rose to fame with the breakout track “No Turning Back” featuring Lawrence Oyor. Other popular songs from the singer include “Yield,” “Elijah Level,” “Talk Am,” and “Emergency.”
His transparency is now inspiring thousands of fans to have open conversations about faith, failure, and freedom.
